Coach Ruben Corral has spent the last 18 years preparing players for the next level. After ending his professional career with the Toronto Blue Jays, he began coaching at Capistrano Valley HS, where he was on Coach Bob Zamora’s staff that won Back 2 Back CIF Championships at Dodger Stadium. Coach Corral head coached the JV baseball team and scouted all CIF opponents during playoffs. His scouting led to a shutout against Riverside’s A.B. Miller and a 4-3 victory over Long Beach Millikan in the Championship game.
In 2003 he took over the Capo Valley Cobras, the incoming freshman squad to Capo Valley HS and the Capo Cats, the incoming 6th, 7th and 8th graders to Capo Valley HS. Over the next 8 seasons, the Capo Cats built a model of success that culminated in another CIF championship in 2009 with several Cats players on the field including major leaguers Kyle Hendricks (Cubs RHP) and Tyler Matzek (Rockies LHP) and several other college baseball commits.
In 2004, Coach Ruben was hired as Varsity pitching coach for JSerra HS, where his staff set school records for wins in a season going 18-3, 19-4 and their first year in the Trinity League under coach Brett Kay.
In 2009, Coach Ruben was hired as pitching coach for Vanguard University. Two of his pitchers, Peter Birdwell and Robert Purpura signing professional contracts with the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers respectively, while Purpura was named GSAC Relief pitcher of the year. The team ranked as high as #6 in the nation during the baseball season.
From 2011 to present, Coach Ruben headed two facilities and travel baseball teams from 10u to 18u, OCX Baseball Academy in Rancho Santa Margarita and Lifeletics Baseball Facility in Huntington Beach. His OCX baseball teams have produced over 30 college signees in the last 4 years and have developed players with a no nonsense, be the best version of yourself attitude on the field and in the gym.
Ruben prepped at Arroyo High School where he was MVP, Captain, all-league in both basketball and baseball and League Most Valuable Player in 1993. He was recruited by the reigning College World Series Champion Pepperdine Waves and drafted in the 10th round by the reigning World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays. As a pitcher, Ruben started and relieved at several minor league stops, leading the league in innings pitched and complete games while his Blue Jays won the Pioneer League Championship in 1995.
Coach Charlie is one of the top private baseball trainers in Orange County with a long track record for success as a player and coach. Charlie was an All-CIF 1st Team selection at La Quinta HS and although he was taken in the 13th round by the Atlanta Braves, chose to attend USC, winning a National Championship before being redrafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 9th round. Charlie spent two years with the Dodgers before being traded to the Angels, where he spent three years, reaching AAA, winning two championships and led the Texas League in winning percentage.
